I am making short subject films now as well as adding my music to them. They have been described as absurd psychological thrillers a la' Harold Pinter. I play twin brothers in a few of them and there is a character named Johnny Hollywood that I have invented. I am offering six films on one DVD. Here are a few reviews so far....
"The films are effin' brilliant" Flannery O'Connery scenarios with a Jitterbug Perfume (Tom Robbins) / Vonnegut / Norman Mailer,
fer goshsakes, one-two punch. Mark Johnson is a fantastic actor. -
Elise Russell international film star and wife of Ken Russell, acclaimed director of Tommy and Lisztomania
" Yesterday I got the dvd. Boogdoogadah was a riot. And then again, there was something ominous about it. The other guy was very funny. Good improvising. How do you manage not to laugh? I wouldnt be able to contain myself. When Daddy visits Baby is so great. The set is remarkable. The acting is excellent, and the monologue is really good, sparse, and tight. I am enjoying these films." - Paul Gleason (late) veteran actor, star of The Breakfast Club
"Ouch, watching this made everything hurt, Is it from laughing? "
-Adam Kimmel director of photography for the academy award winning film Capote
Mark has always produced nothing but very living color, wide-screen music. Now he somehow lures no less than David Lynch and Larry Fine  deep into their own impersonal Twilight Zone, with Mark's eye for disquieting detail as forever keen as his ear's. -Gary Pig Gold

NEWS UPDATE:  Mark Johnson performed on Saturday February 25, 2006 at the Grand Opening of the new Bergenline Avenue Station in Union City, New Jersey. Mark played his song Transit Avenue from his forthcoming new CD release "Twilight Jane." The song was especially written for the occasion. Maria Mijares's porcelain enamel on steel murals have been permanently installed at the station and were the inspiration for the composition. On hand were NJ Governor, Jon Corzine as well as Senator's Lautenberg and Menendez. The song depicts the scene painted by Mijares and became a favorite of NJ Transit executives.

Imagine cold weather across the lower sides of New York, New York circa that Buddy Holly Story movie. Doc Pomus and Arthur Alexander share a cab ride downtown under the direction of Phil
Spector, hook up with Del Shannon en route, only to join forces round a small Teac multi-track machine while Side One of Beatles spins in Repeat Play over in the corner. Welcome to the one-man
International Pop Overthrow which is the one and only Mark Johnson who, alongside his grand Alligator Band, were busy serving some would say SAVING -- real Rock and true Roll back when you or I were probably being distracted by the latest Springsteen album or that last Lennon long-player. Those who may only know and love Mark from his landmark 12 in a room album, or by way of his writing the greatest song Dave Edmunds ever recorded, will thrill in
eavesdropping now upon the man's vintage Village roots. And They're all here to hear anew future past classics such as Lover Boy, Hold Of Your Arms, Diamond Mine,Noreen   and available again in fully Full Dimensional JohnsonSound to boot. No, there still really isn't anyone making music like Mark does; spend just a few minutes under the spell of this album alone and you'll immediately realize why.
